Write

Write helps you communicate with the people you love. By bringing reflection, discovery, and expression together in an online space, Write reclaims the meaning lost in digital communication. https://timetowrite.online Letter writing is a unique opportunity to reflect, discover, and express yourself. Physically writing a letter is time-consuming and associated with insecurities like bad handwriting and poor writing skills. On the other hand, digital communication is temporary and lacks meaning. Write makes it easy to send and receive meaningful communication not intermixed with the other to-dos and logistics cluttering our email inboxes, text histories, and voicemails. To help you write letters, Write prompts you periodically with self-reflective questions to ask yourself and to ask people around you. Once you send a letter with Write, it will be delivered at a random moment within seven days after sending. When someone knows the exact moment a message was delivered and seen, an expectation for a hasty response is placed on both the sender and receiver. By delivering letters serendipitously, Write creates a space for reflecting on the content of the letter.

The Design Bus

The Design Bus is a concept that's Bringing The Arts to The Schools. In low-income schools, in-depth arts involvement reduces drop out rate by 18% and leads to better grades, higher rates of college enrollment, higher career goals, and more civic engagement. By creating a traveling design exhibition, we could have a huge impact. The Design Bus experience would consist of three phases: 1. Hype A few weeks out we’ll hype up the student body and teachers to let them know the design bus is coming. People can visit our website to check out resources and learn more about what we’re doing. 2. Show Up This is where we educate students and teachers about design and the arts in our exhibition. We help students dream about their future in our letterpress studio and we have intentional conversations with teachers to talk about what it would look like to implement the arts into their curriculum. 2a. Letterpress Workshop The workshop takes place during a free period/after school for all students or teachers to participate in. There's a group conversation to ideate and inspire, we present letterpress inspiration. A brief overview of design methods. Then we letterpress posters and hang up posters in the school. 3. Empower Schools are left with a poster series documenting hundreds of dreams of students—emphasizing the importance of the arts in their education. Teachers and students have been empowered with local resources and easy ways to access the arts inside and outside of the classroom. Everyone has signed the bus and can track it as it moves from their school to the next and the next.

The Collaboration Station

At the University of Washington, Business Students, Design Students, and Computer Science Students have compelling ideas, but face the challenge of trying to find students in other departments who can collaborate with them. The Collaboration Station is a physical machine that serves to connect students with project opportunities and shared interests. It was created alongside of Harrison Kwik, Christine Ta, and Sam Tompkins. Users answer prompts with a number pad located on the machine. If they have a project to share, at the end they record a message about their project. If they are looking for a project, they listen to messages that others have recorded and can leave a message if they are interested in a project. This allows for the Collaboration Station to be a hub that students can visit and return back to time and time again, creating a physical location for collaboration and for connections to be made outside of using the machine.

Joyful Interactions

Many interactions lack joy. This is a book I designed, printed, and bound while studying abroad in Italy. The content was created during our adventures through the streets of Rome and a four-day trip up north. The book displays original photography of moments that sparked joy. The curation of content for and creation of this book has largely influenced my design philosophy.
